Senior Fellows
A City of Edinburgh Councillor since 2012, Frank Ross was Convener of the Economy Committee for more than three years before becoming Depute Leader of the Council. He became the city's 257th Lord Provost and Lord Lieutenant in April 2017.
Judith studied at the College of Law in London before reading History at the University of Oxford, where she went on to research and teach for six years. She entered the teaching profession in 1981 and was successively a teacher, Head of Department, and Headteacher. She was Chair of SCEN from 2006-2018.
Barbara joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1994. She has worked in China, Russia, the EU, and at the UN. She is the current Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations. She served as the British Ambassador to China from February 2015 to August 2020, and was the first woman to hold this position.
Jeremy is a Fellow of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and Chairman of the Whitechapel Think Tank, a forum at the forefront of advancing global innovation in Distributed Ledger Technology. He previously served as the Vice-Chairman of Barclays Coorporate from 2009-2019.
William was Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) from 1985 until 2017. He is a Trustee of the Glasgow Science Centre and Chairs the Audit Committee. Since 2017, he has been Visiting Professor at the International Public Policy Institute at the University of Strathclyde.
Alistair was born and educated in Scotland. For the past three decades his focus has been China where he has worked in 28 of the 32 regions and provinces. This experience has led to a number of appointments. These include an honorary fellowship of the Needham Research Institute at Cambridge University; Chair of the International Council of the Centre for China and Globalisation.

Debora Kayembe is a Scottish human rights lawyer and political activist. She has served on the board of the Scottish Refugee Council, and is a member of the office of the prosecutor at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Court Bar Association. She now holds the position of Rector at the University of Edinburgh.
Ignacio has been Deputy Director General for Sub-Saharan Africa, Deputy Director General for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament and Executive Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs in the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
